naw ctc i wasn't laughing. i actually meant to say that i wish that efficient companies such as dell take on defense, aircraft and auto industries instead of the uaw and their ilk stifling our global competitiveness. to answer your post(and myself), in most manufacturing besides computer box making, there are huge barriers to entry including capital costs(even more than the billions dell is sitting on and able to borrow), technology(which dell is able to "leverage of intc" and other tech companies) and experience. this is true in defense related companies, most telecom related ventures, auto industry etc. perhaps consumer electronics is a possibility(make those digital tv's or the newly deregulated cable/set top boxes ...)
