Christopher: Another stray from the Adaptec thread. I just bought Dell, for what that knowledge is worth to you. But not because of the discussion on this thread. I bought it because I believe it has the right idea in its business plan, because it has great customer service and probably loyalty (I bought a laptop recently and contributed to its growth this quarter and did it fully on-line), because it's product warranty beats all, and because its consistently great results validate all of the above. Some longtime Dell watchers have gotten lost in the woods, or at least their vision is obscured by the density of the trees, I think. If you step back and view the landscape, you see how big the forest and how it stretches to the horizon, where the sun is just rising.

Dell buys the best and sells the best, in my view, and does it better than any other computer company. And if I had my name on a product, I'd want it to be the best company, too.

For me, the decision was not whether but when to buy. OK, so I missed by a couple of days.
