John,
RE:"Speculation on K7 speeds. Perhaps what Jerry really said was that K7
would be released at 3 speeds 500 MHz or higher."

I recall an AMD spokesman saying there would be NO 500 MHz K7.

Petz,

Is 650 a possibility?

According to our resident process expert, the AMD 0.25u process can not go past 450 MHz, and even that would require a level of expertise the company does not possess.

I read on this thread that all the good process engineers left AMD a couple of years ago.

Petz,

Re: K7 speeds

Jerry was quite specific, he did say 500/550/600.

I suspect you will have > 600Mhz within 90 days of the release if Dresden ramps up and yields anything with Cu.

Regards,

Kash

Petz - Re: "Is 650 a possibility?"

Too low.

The K7 will intro at 667, 700 and 733 MHz.

WHen AMD introduces the 0.18 micron K7 shrink, in July, speeds will top 1 GHz.

The K7 is a Killer chip .
