The name "Darth Vader" was a play on the words, "Dark Invader."

In a Sunday Washington Post article, entitled "The Power of Darthness", it was said that the name "Darth Vader" was deliberate baby talk for "Dark Father".

So take your pick.

I had a black cat that I named Darth Vader. (You see, I am not totally immune to the power of popular culture.) I had thought of naming him Himmler, because he was imposing the Final Solution on all the chipmunks on our property; but I thought our Jewish friends might take offense.

Darth was the sweetest and most sociable cat (except where chipmunks were concerned)...He died when I was away. :-[
