What, they all keep perfect time?

Those that do keep time, probably don't, but even for them that shouldn't matter yet since they are usually being reset by some master clock or input. The tricky "imbedded chip" problem is a chip that functions based in part on time and date data. These chips have micro code, which is software in the chip, that are the land mines, 'cause you got to find 'em all and see if they matter. It's not like you can print out all the software one normally thinks of and go through it line by line as you brother did.

I don't know what you do to replace a chip that is faulty when no one makes it anymore, I guess you need a bunch of totally new stuff. I'm looking at a couple guidance chips for ICBMs and I'll bet they are not compliant - wonder if our nukes would fly straight if the Chinese launched on us?
