On the contrary, I've been told this by two IR's of nasdaq companies, and I didn't even ask the question. One was the company's outside IR, so maybe that relieves the company of some liability, I don't know.

But sure, if you happened to record the phone conversation when a corporate IR told you it was a good buy, and you then lost money, you might have some pretty powerful ammunition on your hands. I'm sure that it is for this sort of reason that you generally aren't told this.
