Yea sure. Growth through price competition during the early stages of business development. That turns Harvard B school thinking on it's ear. Maybe if Amazon goes out for $5 billion more in debt and equity financing they can go on for a decade with that strategy and maybe even cut half of Barnes walk-in business. The last time I looked, the local B & N parking lot was packed - late still tastes better in company.

Anybody have an idea what the best-seller list comprises of B&N's store sales? I don't, but I bet it's big.

I'll bet its a lot bigger % of store sales than online sales thats for sure. Only because there is nothing to go on when you walk in a store to buy a book other than bestseller and award displays.

According to an article in this afternoon paper about the price wars, it's 3%.

This move is making Barnes bleed. It will be interesting how and if the discounting
works in their stores. Amazon just tightened the screws a bit more.

William,

I thought many months ago you stated that by this time Barnes would not even see Amazon as a competitor. Or was it you quoting Bezos?

Amazon just needed the cash. They were running out.
