Hello all…..Jennie and me have been out of commission for a while and its time to get back in the saddle. Two weeks ago, I decided it was time for Jennie and me to clean out our systems and do a purge. We stopped in at a town we were passing and picked up the necessary items. Then we went into the forest and I mixed up the concoctions we were to take. I gave Jennie her stuff and she started making all these faces. I know she hates it, but I start laughing every time we do this, cuz of the faces she makes. Anyway, she got sick as a dog, what a mess!! Then I got sick, needless to say, we were both in pretty sorry shape. After a day we both came right and with that done, I started my fast, which would last for a week. During this time, Jennie just wondered around and looked at everything there was to see in the forest and at times came back and checked to see how I was doing. During this period, I reflected on all that had been going on and felt that everything was fine and things seem to be very quite. Life had slowed down a bit as it does some times and it felt good to take advantage of the time. I know that things will be heating up soon enough. The following week, I cleaned up our campsite and restored things back the way they were before we showed up. I saddled up Jennie and off we went. After traveling for a couple of days in the foothills and the forests, we came upon a big ole grizzly bear that scarred the be-Jesus out of Jennie and she took off running and so did the bear……after us. While Jennie was running, I kept looking back over my shoulder to see where the bear was. We were leaving him behind…. Thank God!! After Jennie had run about 5 miles, I again looked over my shoulder and noticed that the bear was gone and then when I turned back around, a big old tree limb appeared and hit me right in the chest. It knocked me right off and knocked the breath right out of me. After I came right, I tried to sit up and found that my back was hurting so I just lay there for awhile. Jennie came back and I told her I was hurt and just wanted to lie there for a while. She came over and stood close to me, at which point I told her to lay down, which she did. I then unbuckled her saddle and told her to get up so I could pull it off of her. Then I rolled out my blanket and laid back down on it with my head on the saddle……boy was I hurting. I knew I would need some help to get back on my feet. After a day, I told Jennie that I knew there were some train tracks up the trail a little way and put a note on her with my kerchief so some one would notice. I hoped that some one or maybe just a little engine would come up the tracks and I would get some help. Well, after two days, Jennie came back and I told her I wasn't surprised that even a little engine didn't show up…I told her he never does when you need him. So again we waited for another day, during which I kept trying to get up but my back was giving me what for. Anyway, the following morning, this guy happened to show up carrying all this mining equipment. He came over to me and said, “you look pretty bad, what happened?” So I told him how I got hurt and he told me he knew a little about fixing backs and I said lets do it, I'm not getting very far like this. So he twisted me up like a pretzel and I heard this big pop and then instant relief. Wow what a feeling that was! He then told me I needed to rest for another day before I could be getting up and around and that he would stick around until I got back on my feet. I thanked him and asked if he would like to start up a fire and maybe put some hot coffee on for the both of us, which he did. Then I asked him what he was doing with all of that mining equipment and where was he heading? He told me he had a lot of people backing him up on this money making adventure and he was heading up to the mountains to look for gold, which he new was up there. Of course this picked my interest, since I'm always looking for ways to finance my own adventures. I told him I had a little money and that if he could convince me of his plan, that I too would put some money in the pot to help him out. So this guy proceeds to tell me his plans and as he did, I got excited, because I had this feeling he knew what he was doing and where he was going and everybody involved stood a good chance to make a lot of money. He also told me he was putting together a team of people that would help him manage things and that these individuals were people like himself and all they wanted was to see things work out and become profitable. He really convinced me, when he said some of these individuals were smarter than he was when it came to doing certain things and that he believed in them as much as he believed in himself. He also said he was excited and humbled by all the faith everybody had in him and that he would not let them down. Needless to say, I told him to pass over my saddle bags, which he did and I then presented him with a couple of gold bars. I told him I was saving them for a good thing and I felt this was it. He accepted them and told me thanks that he would put my investment to good use and that he would make me a rich man one day….soon. I went to sleep that night a lot more comfortable than I had been for several days…thanks to the miner. And the next morning I got up and found that I could stand up, even though my back still hurt a lot and I new I was on the mend. The miner got up as well and packed his things and told me I would be just fine and to take it easy for a while. I thanked him for helping me out and for fixing my back and he said he was glad to be of service to me and then he went over to Jennie and pulled an apple out of his backpack and gave it to her. He then said to her, that he had heard she liked apples and carrots as well, but he didn't have any at that time, but next time he would. She smiled at him with that cute little smile that she gives to people she likes. Then he said Cowboy I gotta lot of things to do, so I'm getting up the road and heading into the mountains…..Maybe we can catch a sunrise on a mountaintop some time. So he headed off…then I said to him…. Hey what's your name?…..And as he was walking off…. he said it's Joe….everybody calls me ole Joe.
