I have to agree on companies going with names they trust. There is too much on the line for these box makers to have their systems foul up by trying to save a few bucks on some small unkown company.

Like always, the market can change fast, and I agree that Compaq was trying to take attention from their own mis management internally by blaming the industry. For example, with myself, I have had to buy additional computers for the office, the home, when I travel, and so on. The point is that owners of computers are going to buy more of them, just like we went from 1 car to 2 to 3 car households, 1 to 2or more Televisions, and so on. Plus we have all these little gadgets we have to have now(can you live without a cell phone and voice mail) I think it is coming soon as the value is there, it is just something to change the perceptions. The news of success in other companies may bring it back. jmo

Agreed--- I want a box with an on site warranty from a company that will be around a long time,,, not a guy working with a few employees out of his garage or a store front... I want customer svc available if I need it from someone that knows what is in the damn thing and does not expect me to be a nerd and do the fixing myself. I also want software that carries a warranty,,, not like a friend that bought a box from another friend. Found Coral software and little msft compatability-- saved very few bucks and more than that will be gone with the installation (self) of Office 98 or Win 2000. The "deal" is costing him before he gets any productive use from it... Not even an INTC chip--- hell the independents cannot get the "per 1000" price break from INTC... but those guys get a lot of newbies..
