CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 19, 1999-- SlipDisc Records, best known as one of the industry's top hard rock indie labels and currently under the Mercury umbrella, will soon undergo a shift as President, David Chackler, announced plans recently to integrate the label into the new M3 Records (Millennium Music & Media), a division of Generation Entertainment Corporation (OTC BB:GNEN - news). M3 will not only focus on artist development of rock acts but also the creation and/or acquisition of a deep catalogue of music for the burgeoning Internet and PC gaming markets as well as the creation, production and distribution of movie soundtracks.
''The formation of this new label provides our acts with a multitude of unique opportunities for cross promotion which will help broaden their base worldwide,'' says Chackler. ''By being active in releasing multi-media product using all forms of alternative distribution, we hope to tap into growing markets and use the exploding advancements in technology as a springboard to develop talent.'' SlipDisc acts making the move to M3 include Drown, Clay People, N17, Rorschach Test, Final Cut, and Nihil.
Already on the board for 1999 are eight rock and three soundtrack releases including the feature film, Spooky House with Ben Kingsley and Mercedes Ruehl (October), VR1's Internet games Crossroads (October) and the highly touted Nomads of Klanth (Summer 1999). A truly multi-media experience, the music for this soundtrack created by M3 band Nihil features screen savers, gamer tips, and more. Other film music placements for M3 acts include Strangeland and the upcoming Universal Soldier Returns for Clay People, and Red Team (Regency Entertainment) and Carrie 2 The Rage for 16 Volt.
Additionally, M3 is planning a June 10 launch of their new lifestyle website (M3music.com) designed with gamers and hard rock fans in mind and complete with downloadable music and a metal radio show, among other unique components.
New Rock Releases: Rorschach Test & November 17 (N17)
Meshing industrial rage and metal guitars with ambient and techno grooves, Seattle's Rorschach Test, heads into the Bob Lang Studios with Producer Neil Kernon on board to record its as yet untitled sophomore release, scheduled for a September 14 release. The band's highly successful debut album titled, Unclean, which brings to light the dynamic emotions emanating from a childhood filled with religious guilt and personal strife was ranked with four stars by Guitar World and judged as ''excellent,'' by The Rocket. Released in April 1998, it achieved Top 20 Active Rock and No. 2 Most Added at FMQB.
Phoenix-based N17's sophomore effort, titled Defy Everything, is underway at a Phoenix-area studio also with producer Neil Kernon at the helm and is expected to bow August 17. One of the first bands to fuse metal and industrial, N17 gained recognition from the masses, being voted Best Industrial Band at the New Times Music Showcase in both 1996 and 1997. Defy Everything comes on the heels of the band's successful SlipDisc debut, Trust No One, which was Top 10 at Metal Radio for 6 months and named one of the Top 35 Best Releases of 1997 by FMQB. As HITS puts it, ''With youth as their ally, it is only a matter of time until N17 are at the forefront of the new wave of heavy music.''
Other M3/SlipDisc News: Clay People & Drown
Many bands can lay claim to melodic sense, but The Clay People are one of the rare and precious few who can craft a melody, then play it like they'd just boosted themselves with a dirty adrenaline needle straight to their collective heart. Their recent and self-titled release saw the first single ''Awake,'' land a coveted and choice spot in Dee Snider's Strangeland film and soundtrack (TVT). Currently, the song is prominently featured in Strangeland video release trailers on Chuckie Bride, Permanent Midnight and The Jerry Springer Movie. Meanwhile, the dark and melodic single ''Who Am I?'' is set to hit rock radio shortly as the band continues their headline tour which includes several Radio Festivals in the North East.
Monster of hard-core, DROWN has just completed a high visibility tour with Clutch, in support of their latest Product of A Two Faced World, which charted on Top 10 radio lists across the board. Up next is the release of the radio single ''Kerosene,'' which is slated for a June release as a limited edition EP, featuring DROWN and some fellow metal heads and homies. The EP's track listing is as follows: 1) ''Kerosene'' radio version; 2) ''Kerosene'' Spanish version ''Mi Vida Loca''; 3) ''Kerosene'' 1605 All-star version, featuring Ryan Shuck (Orgy, guitar), M.C.U.D. (hed) p.e., vocals), Ty (Videodrone, vocals), D-Hauz (20 Dead Flower Children, vocals) and the underground terrorist Corporate Avenger; 4) ''Kerosene'': Album version; 5) ''Something To Do'' music by Up The Anesthetic (Sean E. Demott and studio wiz Ryan Boesch) and lyrics by Lauren. The EP will be available at shows or through M3music.com.
