flickerful,

A couple of webcasts coming up (you can find them on newsalert.com

WICHITA, Kan.--(BW HealthWire)--May 18, 1999--AHN.COM, the Web site of America's Health Network, will Webcast the Internet's first live angioplasty and stent-deployment operation on Thursday, May 27, at 10 a.m. ET, from the Wesley Medical Center.

AND

TRINIDAD & TOBAGO--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--May 18, 1999--For the first time ever, the MISS UNIVERSE(R) swimsuit competition, featuring all 85 women from around the globe, will be webcast on cbs.com on May 25, the day before the live telecast of the 48th ANNUAL MISS UNIVERSE PAGEANT(R) on the CBS Television Network (May 26, at 9:00-11:00 PM live ET/delayed PT). Internet users will be able to view the never been seen before forty-minute webcast several times throughout the day, May 25th, on cbs.com.

All of this is very very good. From surgery to pageant, news to art I am hoping this will become one of the domininat communications forms.

What would be good is perhaps an Internet webvideo art collective or some such thing that would stage video happenings all over the net.

Thure

This Bell Atlantic Video thing is annoying, flick.

Firstly, I resent that Bell Atlantic can't give me a clean phone line and here they are running a Net butterfly subsidiary. No matter how you gimmick up the accounting, rate-payers are subsidizing this adventure and won't ever benefit from it.

Secondly, AXC should be in this business (and maybe it is!). Believe it should be easy to sell against BEL's service. Heck, they only seem to have 3,333 hours of material under "management." That's peanuts. Furthermore, they have no proprietary technology and, no matter how they dress up, they're still just a low-tech RBOC.

Thirdly, AXC can hire away all of BEL's good people (assuming they have any). The reason BEL can't compete with AXC for "human capital" is that BEL would struggle to award stock options to stellar talent and worse, their options are not (and won't be) worth much.

Fourthly, AXC should be buying Virage, as we've recommended here.
