But the reports of AMD's going >50% U.S. retail did not come out until January / February.

Regardless, I don't understand how you can say with a straight face that Intel should cede marketshare. Your scenario might pump up earnings for a quarter or two, but then what? AMD has another fab coming online, and they could conceivably enter into a foundry arrangement. Now you've given your competitor a boatload of waiting customers to absorb their added capacity. I'm sorry, but that's nuts. This is a business. YOU HAVE TO COMPETE!

I think those that are in for the long haul would rather keep and gain as many customers as possible, as long as it's done at a profit.
