Go to the Bible, Moses' nephew Lot was married in early teens. Aboriginal tribes still marry at puberty. When English factories needed labor, the eligible boys and men left the villages and went to the industrial towns. More labor demand and the girls left. A stable life unmodified in generations now bore little relation. The strict Victorian age with Draconian strictures against sex could have simply been the clamping down onto a populace without customs to guide them. On and on, and you give me aliens.
