I especially like the part about the cache market growing from $19 million to > $1 billion!

CacheFlow Rolling Out OC-12-Capable Cache Appliance

CacheFlow Inc. next Monday will take the
wraps off a new cache appliance that can
scale up to OC-12 (622 Mbps) traffic loads.

The Series 5000, available June 30, is
geared to carriers and large enterprises
scrambling to keep pace with the explosive
growth of Internet traffic, according to Kelly
Herrell, CacheFlow's vice president of
marketing.

The appliance can handle up to 40,000
simultaneous connections. The basic model
can be configured to handle a T3 (45 Mbps)
connection up to OC-12 by adding more
processor power, memory and disks, Herrell
said.

Although carriers will likely be among the
first customers to deploy the Series 5000,
enterprises are also beginning to employ
caching in their internal networks. A
Dataquest survey projects the caching
market to balloon within the next four
years--from only $19 million last year to
more than $1 billion--driven in part by
enterprise adoption of the technology.

The Series 5000 relies on CacheFlow's
recently released CacheOS Version 2,
which features bolstered performance
reporting and response times. The app's
new capabilities, in combination with
improvements built into the appliance, will let
the OS handle data three times faster than
previous versions.

The Series 5000 will be priced at $39,950 for
a basic configuration. A fully loaded
appliance capable of handling OC-12
connectivity will be priced at $400,000
