I understand the economic justification for the antitrust laws, though I don't necessarily agree with it. My take on it has always been that the Sherman Act was primarily social legislation aimed at busting up the railroad, oil and utility trusts back in the late 19th Century and the economic justifications followed.

Antitrust was a big interest of mine when I was a student but I never really got into it when I was in private practice, except for preparing premerger filings under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Act. As in-house counsel, I just tell everybody to stay away from doing the illegal stuff and to always call me any time there is any type of meeting or discussions with competitors.

Are we better off after AT&T was busted up?
