HouseHold Direct Begins Development Of New Web Portal for "Varsity Shoppers"

SOUTHBURY, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 20, 1999--HouseHold Direct, Inc. householddirect.com (formerly RDI Marketing, Inc.) (OTCBB:RDIM - news) announced on Wednesday that it will be launching a new web portal aimed specifically at affinity markets on the Internet.

The niche portal is being developed as a gateway to the Internet for groups of individuals with specifically defined interests, and is being tailored to the requirements of intelligent shoppers.

This stage of development offers tremendous profit potential for HouseHold Direct and our vendor partners, and will be expanded into communities of interest that further a consumer shopping experience.

An Internet portal is a hub or gateway to the Internet, such as Excite (Nasdaq:XCIT - news), Lycos (Nasdaq:LCOS - news), Go2Net (Nasdaq:GNET - news) and Infoseek (Nasdaq:SEEK - news), that offers a range of features and services for web visitors. Rather than general interest portals, the Company will offer information and service to specific interest groups, which will be geared towards shopping content-rich web communities similar to geocities.com (Nasdaq:GCTY - news), chat information. These specific portal topics resemble iVillage.com and Women.com, which focus on the interests of women.

When operational, the HouseHold Direct portal will also offer some of the web's most popular services, similar to: Hotmail (Nasdaq:MSFT - news) for free e-mail services, communities talkcity.com, and auctions, as those offered on e-bay.com (Nasdaq:EBAY - news) and ubid.com (Nasdaq:UBID - news).

HouseHold Direct is working to create the largest single source of discounted consumer transactions in the world. This will be accomplished by harnessing the massive buying power of those smart consumers who have joined a membership organization into a cohesive network where HouseHold Direct can manage specific shopping requests and facilitate purchases directly from the manufacturer, thereby eliminating normal retail and wholesale mark-ups.

As a publicly held corporation, HouseHold Direct combines physical member service locations with new technology that will bring existing interactive shopping right to the home.

Using refined data warehousing and management systems, the Company can service each individual consumer as a personal entity, thus catering to their personal preferences. HouseHold Direct members are ''varsity shoppers'' who understand both value and service. They pay a fee to have access to specialized information, services and prices that are tailored to their own individual wants and needs, and that are not available to the general public.
