That analogy between Softbank and CMGI has been made many times. Son himself has commented expressing an opinion that Softbank had better quality holdings than CMGI. If Softbank was only competing in the US Market, I would be concerned, but since their strategy is to dominate in the Japanese (actually Asian) market with a model that will take the successful internet ventures from America to Asia, things look pretty good. Softbank has a good shot at being the dominant player in Asia and even Bill Gates seems to be endorsing them. I'm still looking forward to how Softbank will enter the US Investing market. The act of setting up to enter the US Securities market may have a temporary negative effect on the stock price in Japan. Hopefully it won't be too long or too deep.
