Microsoft has not invested one penny in Teledesic, that is correct. Until Teledesic can get $3-4 billion from them (for they plan on being Microsoft's "platform in the sky" according to Russell Daggart), the point is Teledesic, as one opinion has it, is going nowhere. Money-- bankloads-- is what makes satellite systems viable, and if Microsoft doesn't commit to Teledesic (and Teledesic is to be a platform for it), why would anyone else is the thinking.

McCaw has invested more than $10 million-- I don't know the exact number. Bill Gates' investment I don't know at all.
