state Dell made the biggest percentage increase of internet earnings
This misses the point. For DELL, internet sales are just a way of reducing one of the few disadvantages of DELL's model - the need to have a lot of folks manning phones and shepherding customers through the sales process. There is no model there that can be leveraged to show big bucks. When DELL gets 100% of its business on the internet, they are done, they have squeezed all the value possible out of this "Internet play". Even outfits like EBAY have a better story than that - the more business they do, the more money they make. Likewise, IBM has wisely hitched their story to the growth of the internet. But if the internet grew by whatever factor, DELL's play because if its web sales would not change at all.

Just having a lot of web sales or a site with a lot of hits is of no value if there's no way that gets tied to growth potential.
