Royal Philips Electronics NV said Roel Pieper, who had been tipped as a possible successor to Cor Boonstra as chief executive of Europe's largest consumer electronics company, is leaving--the sixth senior executive to quit since August.

"It's bad news, obviously," said Oscar Poos, an analyst at Bank Insinger de Beaufort. "He was one of the crown princes. I've lost count on how many have left. People will speculate that Boonstra can't have anyone near him."

Boonstra has been reorganizing Philips for four years, slimming it down to eight main businesses by selling assets and making acquisitions in new areas of technology. Since last August, the heads of two of its main businesses, two management board members, and the heads of both the U.S. and Dutch operations have left.
