I actually worked with Team Lotus on some engine control for their F1 offerings in the late 80's. Those were some folks who really understood how an engine makes power. Also their location, in an old country estate in a little english village called Hethel, was beautiful - it had been used as an RAF site in WWII and we did some testing of the cars on the old airstrip. Great stuff.

I agree that DELL is approaching an inflection point, and have discussed this off and on over the last year. I think you have the issues outlined exactly. Only the DELL top management knows which way they will jump. Stay with a highly leveraged model which plays to their strengths, but maybe outside the traditional DELL product space? That would preserve their ability to grow quickly and maintain the great cash management but runs the risk of confusing the market and diffusing their message. Grow into a more diversified computer company? CPQ had a great plan to do that and did the right acquisitions and partnering, but we have seen how hard the execution really is. There are a number of relationships with IBM which could make sense but over time all would change DELL as we know it. I don't know if MSD has that kind of ambition.

Whatever happens, it will be interesting to watch. Thanks for the always interesting commentary and insights.
