"We need DSL not cable". Once a deal is made with cable it will be the beginning of their control over the Internet. At that point there will be no turning back.

Other ISP's are also being LEFT OUT of Internet access via cable. With DSL everyone gets a chance of being a high speed internet access provider. This fact gives strength to what Mr. Case is arguing in Washington.

IMHO... if there is a cable deal we'll all feel warm and fuzzy short term but long term may be a different story.

Jenne - Right, ANY sort of cable affiliation plan would help -- at least for market perception, if nothing else.

Problem is that with BOTH ATHM and ROADRUNNER tied into T, that tightens the field as it's not the cable company connection per se but the high speed cable modem pipeline. Maybe a separate deal could more easily be made with Roadrunner affiliation as RoadRunner does not yet have the direct PORTAL integration plan that ATHM has. Also, apparently TWX is wanting to maintain some degree of "independence" for RoadRunner and TWX will have some say in that, in addition to T and Armstrong.

In any event, let's hope some pairing gets done so the '(Phantom) Cable Menace' can be neutralized --
