Reagan policy of engaging Evil empire was a winner... Largely true, though the Russian economy was crumbling before Reagan and would doubtless have continued crumbling, though perhaps at a slower pace, without Reagan. It is also worth considering that if the Reagan/Bush administrations had put some effor into managing an intelligent transition to a market economy instead of singing "ding, dong, the witch is dead" and sending in the carpetbaggers, we might not be facing the possibility of a far more dangerous regime emerging.
