Oracle/AOL Have Stake

(NewsTraders.com)-- Liberate Technologies (former NCI)is registering to sell up to $100
million of common stock for an initial public offering, according to an original
S-1 filing released by the SEC this afternoon.

The company didn't disclose the exact number of shares that will be offered or
an expected price range in the preliminary regulatory document.

Liberate provides standards-based software that serves as a platform for the
delivery of Internet-enhanced content and applications to a broad range of
information appliances, such as television set-top boxes, game consoles,
smart phones and personal digital assistants.

Oracle (ORCL) currently has a 59.24% stake in the firm, while America
Online's (AOL) Netscape unit controls a respectable 11.39% slice.

The company plans to use the proceeds for working capital purposes,
including product development and other working capital requirements.

CS First Boston is the lead underwriter in the IPO.
