I thought they said they had 3 of their top 5 OEM wins to announce If I remember correctly (somebody confirm), during the CC 3dfx did state that they had 3 OEM wins from the top 5 [tier 1] companies subject to final approval? I believe that they also stated that these wins were in the high-volume portion of the OEM lines. All companies play semantic games, personally I feel that 3dfx plays less than word games than most primarily because they don't say much at all and what they do say does come to pass. It is possible for multiple card manufacturers to have OEM win's within a single boxmaker, example (i'll be nice): i740 win at the baseline computer, 3dfx win in mainstream computers, Tnt2 win at high performance, and possibly options for ATI as optional card in either a reduction or improvement at each pricepoint. Quite honestly, all 4 manufacturers can claim OEM wins with the company... it's all a matter of how it is announced. (can you tell i'm in a "wordgame" industry?) Examples and possible interpretation:biz.yahoo.com (possible whole line, but specifically states "Micron combines the award-winning RIVATNT2 graphics processor with the new Intel® Pentium® III 550MHz in order to deliver incredible visual quality and graphics horsepower for today's most-sought-after 3D entertainment and business applications. " Which could mean they only have a win in the 550MHZ range (most powerful system).)biz.yahoo.com (sounds like across the performance line... "...to be featured in their Gateway Performance line of PC's.. " They also have the "essential" and "select" lines.biz.yahoo.com ("will be offered in the Prosignia 330 desktop PC from Compaq Computer Corporation "... well... at least it's one system...) i'm not leaving out 3dfx....biz.yahoo.com (.. "EveshamVale Scorcher and Platinum range of PCs " ... don't ask me...)biz.yahoo.com (.."NEC Direct will incorporate a high-performance Voodoo3 3000 AGP card as a standard feature in select Direction PC configurations, and as an optional feature for all Direction PCs "... case and point)biz.yahoo.com ( "Packard Bell in mid-May will begin integrating 3dfx Interactive's advanced Voodoo3 2000 acceleration technology onto the motherboard of selected models in the MultiMedia line " ... a couple of computers.. ) I think there was even a Dell win for 3dfx.... in China :). (can't document) Why did I waste all this bandwidth (and research time)? To illustrate that wordgames are definately part of this industry and after watching this industry for a couple years you can tell who delivers on what they promise and who promises what they can't deliver... I'm not trying to turn you to the "light" side (heh TPM TPM) but certain companies have consistently made claims and deceptive PR's about their company(s). That was initially one of my most convincing reasons for purchasing 3dfx stock after it IPO'd, the don't talk much but when they do, they deliver. Make up your own mind on the validity, extent, and significance of ANY press release, spindoctors are employed to write these things. Jeff "I sure hope someone gets something of value out of this" P.
