Rambus is an interconnection technology. These people may be able to pull off some interconnections, such as processor to processor, that will define a whole new market. I'm not counting on such things, but they would be gravy ontop of the steak.

"Rambus is an engineering think tank"....

This is such a critical point to remember in the months, and years, ahead. Some of the really important technological discoveries in the past were made in think tanks like Bell Labs and the Xerox lab. Sadly, much pure R&D development such as was done by those firms, exploring myriad of technology directions looking for the best answer, has been replaced with smaller limited staffs looking for the next incremental step in a technology. The philosophy of many companies has become: "If I can't develop the next step, I'll buy the company that does".

This opens a fantastic opportunity for a company like Rambus, which is focused on a specific form of technological development which will have wide applications in many different directions. As Uncle reminds us, PCs are only one part of the total picture; others will follow and yet others will be developed, spurred on by the availability of Rambus technology. Rambus will stay focused on its technology, not distracted by a corporate ownership wishing to diversify into creating the next great toaster.

I was very pleased to hear about the Rambus retention rate of quality staff. Another very good sign.
