John,

I agree with your assessment that deflation, IMO, is a greater
threat than inflation and I posted so last weekend.. based on my own experiences. Which is how I come to most of my conclusions...

I think most people that have their feet grounded in the real world understand economics better than when they get their "news" from
the various business sources... The "real world" is composed of
good people making their way.. "doing the best they could" as John
Stewart sang... in "Mother Country"..

BTW, from a market point of view, everybody and their dog was bearish last weekened.. I was in the middle. "selectively long"
I think I said.. Well I'm still that way. . but BUT DO NOT see a
big rally starting.. In fact my indicators are rolling over.. and
I'm now flat and looking to short... Same ole, same ole, Volatility..
I'm saying..

Good luck.. Coug..

I think the heart of the disagreement here (inflation vs. deflation) comes from not differentiating medium term and longer term. Near and medium term, the US has (1) a labor shortage, and (2) lots of money sloshing around (the Fed LOVES liquidity), both of which are starting to drive up prices. Longer term, there is lots of cheap of foreign competition that wants to eat the US for lunch.

John, You said it all when you stated one of your family members has to work 76 hours per week to make good money. Sure, good money, but he or she is just slaving their life away -- for the green! I did something similar once myself, and guess what, I can never get those hours back that would have been spent in happier times! If they are working that many hours per week, sacrificing a normal life, they deserve the big bucks. But the problem in this nation of ours and around the world for that matter, is that many do work 60, 70 even 80 hours per week, but still make slave wages. We really have not progressed as far as we think from the old slavery days. It just comes in different forms these days, or as George Bush would say, "kinder and gentler", but we still have a LONG ways to go before we are treating everyone as they should be. Yogi
