Re: StarOffice 5.1 The June issue of Computer Currents has a review of StarOffice 5.1.

The part that I found interesting was "Overall, StarOfffice 5.0 is a competent, competitive application suite and is more than enough for most users. However, if you must share documents with Microsoft Office users, don't bite. Similarly, if you have a bunch of PC novices on your hands, Microsoft Office offers a polished set of templates and automated wizards, as well as a far superior help system".

They rate it 3 stars out of 5. I don't think Redmond is quaking.

MSFT's Internet Explorer browser now tops Netscape Navigator in the business market as well as the home. A Zona Research study of 308 businesses found 59% of workers use Explorer compared with 41% who use Navigator. A Zona study from October 1998 found quite the opposite. 60% of business computer users then employed Navigator and 40% used Explorer. Behind the shift is an increase in corporate browser-use policies. Sixty-nine percent of companies said they had such policies and 62% of those said the policies standardized on Explorer. Upstart Linux draws interest
of a Microsoft attack team

By Lee Gomes
THE WALL STREET JOURNAL

May 21 — There's a new job description at Microsoft Corp.: Linux stalker. In what amounts to a case of “The Empire Strikes Back,” the software giant in recent weeks has deployed a team of engineers and marketers to keep tabs on Linux, the fast-growing, free operating system that is making waves in the computer world.
