Kathy,
My wife has a Dell Laptop. That is the computer that I installed it on. (Inspiron 3000, about a year old.) We have an Airtouch Cellular phone. I called Airtouch and they made a conference call to 3 Com , with me on the line and told them what I needed, I gave 3 Com my credit card number and I had the modem in 2 days. I am sure that any Cell phone co. service dept would do the same. The Airtouch guy told me that he does this all the time. I have an analog phone, but could have got a modem for a digital phone just as easy. The phone call was just to let 3 Com know which of their modems fit my phone. Order your laptop without a modem and then call your cell co and find out what modem you need. The modem just slides into the slot on the side of the computer. ( oh you need a cable with it. which 3 com can supply) You plug the cable into the phone and into the computer and start dialing.Works fantastic!
