Ron Schmidt, technical co-founder of SynOptics/Bay Networks, is new President of Lucent WEST in Silicon Valley. Ron is hiring all top remaining talent away from NORTEL/BAY who were loyal to Ron.

Caution to NT, Cisco, Ciena, Juniper, NN, Alcatel, Siemens, NET, Ericsson, NEC, Nokia.

Ron is building a innovation army of dedicated LU West scientists who can think New World and market like SynOptics did; along the way filing barrier patents to cover their rear.

Ron was on board of directors at VitalSigns (Sequioa Venture) which INS (the famed Cisco integrator) just bought.

Ron was Senior CTO at Xerox PARC Labs before SynOptics. Ron has been a pioneer in Photonics since 1984 published paper on Optical Switching.

Why is Mr. Schmidt still working? Cuz he is a mad scientist playing in a wonderful sandbox called Bell Labs with all it's resources at his disposal.

To all: Does anyone on the thread have a position in Veritas Software (vrts) or insight into their business model? A friend called them to my attention, and I see that their 5 year cgr was 82% for revenue and 76% for eps, and that their net profit margin runs >20%. This growth has been going on for quite a while without me; the 5 year return to an informed investor was 2,791%.

Since they specialize in the storage area, one of you emc or ntap folks might be able to help me avoid wading through the 10Ks.

Frank

Mike, I would like your comment on Caxton's post on the Q thread yesterday. Seems to good to be true.

For those of you following MSFT, I have not read the MSFT thread this week, but, there was a very interesting lead story in Monday's WSJ on the possible settlement terms.
