Never thought I'd get a discount on my reading purchases simply because enough dumb people were throwing their cash at bezos.

Just do not forget your primary mission: to buy as much as possible from Yeahmazon.com so as to deplete their cash reserves ASAP.

Amazon's still growing quickly; the bigger they become, the more reasonable the scenario in which they inch prices higher to swing slowly toward the black bottom line.

Will Amazon be the WMT of the web? Many of it's customers seem to think so.

Randy

Borders.com Newsletter
Volume 2, Number 2
Week of May 17, 1999

Dear Friend of Borders.com:

We've got to hand it to the folks at Lucasfilm Ltd.: with this
week's release of "The Phantom Menace" they've created a
full-fledged cultural phenomenon, perhaps the single most-
anticipated movie of all time.

Unless you live under a rock or in some galaxy far, far away,
you've been bombarded with stories surrounding the "Star Wars"
prequel craze -- the midnight toy store sprees, the explosion of
"Phantom Menace" websites, those die-hard fans at Mann's Chinese
Theater in Hollywood who spent light years waiting in line for
tickets. You've also heard the hype about how "Phantom
Menace"-related products have become instant collector's items
among feel-the-Force faithful. Well, it's our turn to
participate in the mania.

* OUR "PHANTOM MENACE" STORE -- Forgetting for the moment that
those people camping in line seemed to be having a really good
time, we at Borders.com respectfully suggest a less-frenzied
alternative to picking up the new line of "Star Wars"
memorabilia: order it online at our special "Star Wars" store.
You'll find all four editions (with different covers) of Terry
Brooks' new book, "Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace," --
plus an interview with the author himself - "The Phantom Menace"
soundtrack, staff reviews, and other "Star Wars" features, as
well as links to dozens of related items -- a one-stop shop for
anyone who's caught "Phantom Menace" fever.

* WIN AN iMAC -- Don't forget about our big iMac giveaway.
We're handing out one computer a week beginning May 31 -- one in
each of five eye-popping colors. This promotion has proved
extremely popular so far, so enter today to make sure you don't
miss your chance to win.

* LOGIN: STEPH, OUR NEW COMPUTER BOOKS COLUMN -- Speaking of
computers, after you've signed up for the iMac Giveaway, take a
moment to read "login: steph," our new weekly column (located at
the top of the page in our Computer Books department). It's
written by Stephanie, our lead computer book editor, who's an
unabashed computing and gaming addict with plenty of opinions,
suggestions and stories to tell. We think you'll agree that her
new column makes for good copy. Take a look and let us know
what you think.

And keep an eye out: In coming weeks we plan to roll out similar
columns in other Borders.com departments -- columns that reflect
the Borders know-how and insight you've come to expect in our
stores.

* LIVE AUTHOR & ARTIST CHATS -- We've got several big chats
coming up during the next couple of weeks. Highlights include
Nebula Award-winning sci-fi legend Connie Willis on May 20; U.S.
Representative Richard Gephardt, who discusses his new book "An
Even Better Place" on May 25; and "Bastard Out of Carolina"
author Dorothy Allison, who talks about her newest book,
"Cavedweller," on May 26. Please stop by our NetCafe for a
complete chat schedule.

Also, take a look at our interview with Marilyn Wann, author of
the new book, "Fat!So?". Our interviewer, Jessica Jernigan,
bills Wann as a "tireless fat activist," and someone who "is
changing the way people think and feel about the diversity of
human forms." You can read her interview using the link
provided below.
