To those of you in the know, I have a question:

The service providers own the ground stations. Consumers own the handsets. That leaves Globalstar owning the satellites.

My question is this: Is there a technical reason why the service providers cant use the satellites to transfer non-globalstar calls?

Air Touch has 5 ground stations around North America. Seems to me they would enjoy cutting out as many other handlers as they could. That would make Bernies steering away from 'number of customers and towards minutes used' much more illustrative.

Just wondering.
