JLA--- People repose confidence in a candidate, giving of their money and/or time, expecting that he will attempt to win by all fair means, and therefore blowing an election because he deliberately said inflammatory things is directly comparable. Whether insulting the judge were against the law or not, it would be a culpable mistake, and a dereliction of one's duty to one's client...
I mention national security to demonstrate at the outset that there are limits to the propriety of honesty, before examining what those limits might be...
I would hope that family values would trump "speaking one's mind" in such a circumstance....<g>
