Jack,

Thanks for the link. I've seen that document before, and while its a decent marketing piece it unfortunately it doesn't help me all that much in understanding the true differentiators.

Smart documents and TIE would appear to be differentiators, although I think you'll find most vendors have some concepts of "smart documents", and particularily in the case of DCTM and DOCS they are actively pursuing the 'smart libary'. TIE's offers real value to customers that have very large image documents and/or slower speed network connections (such as over a LAN). Other vendors have taken different approaches to the problem, none neccessarily any better, but most are acceptable.

Bottom line from what I can see is that Altris EB appears to be a competent collection of capabilities, with some particular strength in the engineering space, and should be able to compete for business.

Without actually taking it apart and implementing it I can't comment on how effective the features are in the package, or determine how appealing the product might be to VARs and customers.

Altris has a number of significant and many smaller/similar sized competitors, typically all vying for the same business. They must be able to demonstrate that their solution offers some advantage and/or a business relationship with Altris (or one of their partners) offers an advantage over the competition. Unfortunately at this time there is the additional bugaboo/hurdle to jump - the company's recent history. Some calls I made yesterday to other industry insiders reinforced that continues to be an issue, which is not surprising. It will take time and continued successes to heal those rifts.

Regards
Michael

Could someone please explain to me the small trades that continue to occur. Who would be making this type of trade and why?
