<< What is your take on what happened yesterday and today >>

My view:

AMD has been forming a large bottom for the last 3 or 4 months...actual bottom in mid-April. Since mid-April the stock has been trending up steadily, probably in anticipation of K7. My guess is that as we hit the psychological $20 price, short sellers started covering in a major way, causing yesterday's big move. Today's pullback is just a normal to-be-expected pause/breather. I don't attribute the strong move to anything else (i.e. buying Cyrix, etc.), but what do I know.

Of course, my crystal ball is still way fogged over, and we're probably still oozing boatloads of red ink, but one thing is certain...this little run-up has strangely silenced the Intelajerks.

regards, Dan

<What is your take on what happened yesterday and today vis-a-vis price action.>

Probably a run-up in anticipation of the K7. I don't know what the Street is expecting, however, in terms of K7 performance, but even parity with the Pentium III would go a long way toward getting AMD out of the bargain-basement syndrome.

Next comes volume manufacturing and whether AMD can actually make the K7 in real quantities. Too many investors have been bitten by potential "Intel-killers" that just couldn't be manufactured consistently.

Charles R, I wouldn't worry about today's price action. When we stay above 20 3 days in a row, the long term bull trend will be confirmed. The last hour of yesterday's action was momentum players. (and short coverers)

Chuck,

Re: What is your take on what happened yesterday and today vis-a-vis price action.

Recent AMD action has been pretty much to maybe even exactly what I have predicted here:

Short term rise from bottom, short term uptrend, congestion zone around 18-20, resistance at 20-21, and short covering over 21.

AMD is now working on its 20-21 resistance, but it should be done reasonably quickly. When it's back over 21, shorts should be working overtime to cover. (When we won't see much of make so so guy!) We should then go to 25 relative quickly.

25 probably won't hold too long either. Once over 25, AMD will be on an intermediate uptrend.
