*O.T.* Ganola, I think Bobby Knight said it best when asked about how difficult it is to work with kids today and how they have changed. His reply was that kids haven't changed..PARENTS have. As for teachers..they are not magicians. When the school systems pile 35 kids in a classroom or assign 150 to one teacher there is NO WAY they can do anything but become a factory superintendent. I know, my wife has been a highly dedicated teacher for 25 years. No, she's not in it for the money..she's trying to make a difference. And now they have to deal with society's inability to protect the students and the teachers from all the nuts out there. If I heard the news correctly today another poorly adjusted kid pulled a gun out and shot 5 or 6 kids in his school. The problems are a lot more complicated than just teachers. There is also mainstreaming going on and lack of discipline. Parents raise hell because poor Jimmy or Mary will miss a fun day or an atheletic event because the teacher puts them on ISS. Guess what..the school "knuckles" because of all the political B.S. the PARENTS bring to the environment. I'm sorry for venting but I get tired of hearing people try to bring this enormous problem down to only one of a number of categories...it just isn't so. Just a few include: 1. Movies 2. Games 3. Guns 4. Teachers 5. Parents 6. Classmates 7. Internet 8. etc, etc, etc. I don't disagree the teaching profession needs a boost in the quality of people they attract. As long as the politicians give "lip service" to really addressing the problems of under pay, over crowding, under funding, etc, etc the profession will continue to see less than the best attracted to education. Again, I apologize for "going on" but as you can see you struck a nerve. Coupled with DELL...I'm not in a good mood. Best Regards, Tom
