Tommaso,

Exactly my sentiments! Amazon started a business line up which is novel to say the least (now there are several copy cats, but that's a different issue) and extremely beneficial to customers. And it is not just about the money, it is about access. Now, my father sitting in Calcutta, India, has access to all the books that he needs - including books that he had never heard of before and never realized that he might need - whereas in the past it would be extremely hard to special order certain books for which there are no Eastern editions. Now, Amazon's CD and video collection is comparatively weak, but I expect that to become better as well over time. Access to information is the greatest benefit IMO that AMZN pioneered. It is not about money.

However, the problem is that they are living on the edge, surviving on the mere fact that they have excellent CCC, which means that to stay in business they have to constantly grow sales. This, of course, is unrealistic in the long run.

-BGR.

T, I also use Amazon. They regularly send me bribes to buy stuff from them. And, as one of my mentors once told me, "when somebody offers to buy your business (by risking their capital to get my large trades done at favorable prices to me), let them. When they can't lose their money any more, dump them and we'll (Salomon Brothers, who is no longer there to take orders <g>) still be here to take your orders." <g>
