The VDMA link you posted does not provide any information
about VDMA. It just uses some techno lingo that is intended
to sound right, but which provides zero information.
By its description, VDMA looks like a scam to me.

The advantage of a mesh topology is that adding a node adds
future connectivity to a net. There is an example of mesh that is shipping product:

There are other store-and-forward mesh designs, but most are
university research projects.

The requirement for line-of-sight does not go away just because there are repeaters, each must still have a decent link margin to function.

I agree with Bernard's assessment that the unClarity of the
description is intentional. Perhaps they will list patent numbers
to you.
