Steve, what makes America different is that we have constitutional rights, although IMO, they appear to be eroding a bit more every day. Not fast enough to be evident, but if you keep doing 5 year flashbacks, there are more and more missing pieces.

I collect guns. Most are over 150 years old. All are one of a kind and pieces of art. The craftsmanship is exquisite, and each has a story to tell from the lives of those craftsmen who developed the skill to labor over them a long time ago. There was no internet, there was no electricity, there were no automobiles, there was no atom bomb, no TV, radio, or autoracing, football, etc. You either learned a skill that put food on the table and a roof over your head, or you were out on the street. No public aid programs back then...

My mom (now age 74) taught me how to handle guns. She was a nationally ranked shooter on Penn State's rifle team back in the '40's. The first rifle she taught me how to load an shoot in sixth grade was a .69 caliber muzzle loading Springfield, made in 1832. It was taller than me, kicked like a mule, and could drop a buffalo at 500 yards. No Saturday morning cartoons for me back then. I went out into the back yard and practiced all morning. I got to be good enough that year to knock crows out of a tree with open iron sites at 200 yards.

But the important thing I remember is that she told me the rules and took the time to make sure I followed them.

Guns are not the problem today. Liberal parenting is. So many try to be their kids' best friend instead of their parent.

JMO,

Mark A. Peterson
