Says High Speed Net Solutions

PACIFIC PALISADES, N.J., May 19 /PRNewswire/ -- High Speed Net Solutions
(OTC Bulletin Board: HSNS) has announced today that the public can now preview and download free browser plug-in for the latest version of the wavelet-based still-image software (4U2C), developed by Summus Limited on the company's web
site, www.hsns.com.
The software-only solution to the bandwidth problems that many companies are attempting to solve via hardware reconfigurations, can provide up to three hundred percent faster downloads for users on the Internet. It allows web designers the opportunity to dramatically improve the quality of their content and realize substantially faster download speeds. Usage of the product also reduces storage requirements and can significantly reduce monthly recurring costs for bandwidth.
The 4U2C product also offers easy-to-use, product enhancements. These features now include (1) focus boxes where users can enhance clarity on specific areas; (2) the ability to compress numerous images in a batch process; and (3) the ability to magnify images without increasing the file
size.
Summus Limited Chief Technology Officer, Leonard Mygatt, in a February 23, 1999, PC World news article explained why this product has the inherent ability to offer these benefits, "Wavelet images support regional focusing, embedded image enhancements and progressive decompression.<b/> This is possible
because of how wavelet-based compression works, breaking images into layers of resolutions. This allows you to be very specific about the part of the image to which you want to apply processing."
This same technology can also be applied in hardware applications, including digital cameras, scanners, and storage devices. It can also provide significant operating cost reductions for storage and transmission in the medical-imaging industry while maintaining necessary quality and resolution of
images.
HSNS discussed installation of the technology with one of the largest ISPs in the United States in the first quarter, yet made a strategic decision, due to the reallocation of personnel necessary to accomplish the task, to remain committed to agreed upon delivery times for the video electronic mail and streaming video products.
Due to the growing public demand for inexpensive, high-quality video transmission, broadcast and communication, the video electronic mail and video-streaming products have remained the top development and marketing
priorities.
HSNS has pursued offering the still-image product to improve storage solutions for hardware manufacturers. The strategy is to continue presenting the technology's advantages to hardware manufacturers while pursuing a global strategic licensing partner that can aggressively deliver the software to ISPs, and web designers. Management also intends to pursue distributionrelationships for both hardware and software solutions in the medical-imaging
industry.
