When I get mad, watch out. :)))

This afternoon someone ---who should have known better--- told me CMTO wasn't selling to Cox. A little rummaging in the archives proved her wrong and unearthed some interesting sites in the process.

Cox Communications' High Speed Cable Modem

Cox Communications' fiber optic network can deliver the Internet at speeds you've never seen before! The same broadband pipe that delivers video to your home can bring you the World Wide Web at blazing speeds. With our cable modem access, slow downloads and inactive connections are a thing of the past. You can visit sites with video, animated graphics, and audio, without those long waits. Cable Modem access leaves 56k modems and ISDN service in the dust.

With our Cable Modem service you get all the great services of the Internet including email, news, chat, ftp, http. And if you want to access your favorite service provider like AOL, you can do so without getting a busy signal.

How does it work? Our upgrade includes the activation of forward and return capabilities of the fiber optic network. This provides for two-way communication on the network and blazing speed access to the Internet.

Cox Communications is using the ATM architecture of the COM21 cable modem. The modem is capable of speeds up to 4 Mbps and provides various Quality of Service levels to fit the users needs. To make the high speed cable modem compatible with the user's computer, an ethernet card is installed in the computer. For more information on Cable Modem technology and the services offered, CNET can be a great source.

In addition to state of the art technology and equipment, Cox Communications has implemented local Internet caching servers. These caching servers allow users to frequently bypass the bottlenecks of the Internet when retrieving cached information.

To see a demonstration of the cable modem, you can visit the store at 490 N. Stephanie in Henderson. To get your high speed internet service started, visit the business services desk or ask any sales person.

Cox Communications also provides local help desk support to assist user's in getting the most from their high speed connection.

To see when Cox Communications' high speed cable modem service will be available in your neighborhood, check out our upgrade map.

As our network upgrade progresses through the Southern Nevada Valley, high speed cable modem access, in addition to new video services, will be available to you.
