rrman, my wife used to be a college administrator, and always had a few part- time student aides...Once, one of them, a rather naive sophomore girl, asked my wife to explain how banking worked, so she explained about home and commercial loans, and interest, and the passing on of interest to depositors to attract capital, and so forth...After a brief sketch, the girl went "that is horrible", because it had never occurred to her before that the incentive for most large loans is not friendship or kindness, but interest payments. So, with you, I feel that you have had a sheltered life, and are constantly going "that's horrible" about things that if you only understood were perfectly reasonable. You think that we "exploit" other countries, I say that we invest much needed capital, and the incentive is the comparatively cheap labor market...
