OT to Duker,

Press and hold the ALT key; then press 2 3 0; then release ALT to get µ. Only press the keys 2, 3 and 0. No spaces or anything else.

Similarly ALT 1 8 9 gets ¢.

and ALT 241 for ±.

Enjoy,
Ian.

On a Windows machine, holding the Alt key and typing 0181 on the numeric keypad seems to work, too: µ

In Windows 95, you can also use the Character Map accessory to copy and paste characters without knowing the code for it. Also, the codes for the keyboard entry method are displayed in the lower right-hand corner of Character Map.

© ¢ £ ¥ ® ± ¼ ½ ¾ Å ß ñ, for example. Not sure if these will display properly on a non-Windows machine.
