An impressive process technology announcement, to be sure.

Sunlin Chou, Intel process guru, has commented in public that his own mother had called him up asking "why isn't Intel doing Copper?". Sunlin stated then, and reiterated recently, Intel will probably never do IBM/MOT style announcements relative to components of its process technology that are not ready for prime time, favoring emphasis on "integrated solutions".

Nonetheless, this is a significant problem that needs to be over come a process generation or two out. Planarizing and /or etching Low-K stuff will be a different animal, to be sure.
