>they encourage fraud by allowing participants to have multiple aliases

Dan,

Easy access to multiple aliases at Yahoo! is a very real problem. There may be one or more persons, each posting under several different names, all posting at about the same time on one point of discussion. And there is no way to contact them other than directly via the alias. It's like trying to deal with a myriad of multiple split personalities all at once. There is no way to discern who is who, or who morphs into what, or when. At times, it almost takes on an ominous and sinister psychotic aspect to it.

You mentioned that you thought multiple aliases encourage fraud. I think you are right on target with that. I also think it encourages those with unstable personalities to act even more unstable.

IMO, for a company such as Yahoo!, and others such as AOL, to allow easy access to multiple aliases, borders on the criminal. There needs to be some minimal degree of accountability built into their systems to prevent bad actors from causing havoc.

BTW, I post here at SI under an alias. That is by choice, and I think there are many valid reasons why a person would choose to use an alias, and should be able to do so and not be criticized for it. But I don't make multiple posts under multiple aliases to one topic of discussion! To my way of thinking that is wrong. And it needs to be stopped.

IMO, and FWIW,

Ice
