So, if companies want to release info 'after the bell', to give investors a little time to think about it before they respond, when will they release it?

You'd start seeing a slew of "Halted, News Pending" popping up regularly at about 4:15P ET and 9:00A ET. Merger announcements, earnings, whatever would have been reported during a closed market. Everyone now complains about not being able to respond to said news until the morning, but with 24/7 they'd be able to respond when the standardized time period (say, an hour? tow?) expired. Of course, the Instinet guys would still get in first unless the halt applied to off-market trading also.
