You're right, he was ok as long as he served a purpose in checking the power of Iran. That was not our invention, that doctrine goes all the way back to the Turks. Even Mubarak expressed concern recently about any plans of dismembering Iraq, because it would eliminate Iraq's traditional role as a buffer against Iranian power. Nothing controversial or scandalous there.

As to our rigging the deal to get Kuwaiti dough, for what purpose? So we can turn around and spend that same money to put out the Kuwaiti oil field fires? har!
