**OT** HUNT..
.

I'm sure you're not a NUT but to me you are on the verge of sounding like one. god in the schools is not the answer. god does not have ears... Oklahoma, Columbine, Georgia, Kosovo, Africa, etc., etc. It takes much more than putting god back in the schools. It takes parental guidance, punishment for doing wrong, and holding a child accountable for his/her actions... all of these beginning at a very, very young age.

Is this about DELL or Heaven and HELL. You mean well; but until we can all decide on the same God and religion, school should be where children learn the three Rs. Why dont parents teach there children about their version of God and let the schools teach reading 'riting and 'rithmatic. Do you want a Bhudist teaching your children about GOD? How about a Hindu? Most people who say put God back in school, consciously or unconsciously want their version of God to be thought. The founding fathers were right to separate Church and State as well as allow me to invest in a great stock like DELL.... especially at these lower prices. What church does DELL belong to? I dont even care.

*OT* Amen Hunt, My grandfather once told me, "When they threw Jesus out the front door of the school house, the devil walked in the back". A couple of years ago, I argued with a US Congressman in his office in Washington over tobacco legislation proposed to reduce (yeah right) teens from smoking. Don't get me wrong, I detest smoking, however my point to him was its the PARENTS RESPONSIBILITY to keep tobacco out of our childrens hands and not the federal govt! His response, "Parents are unable to take control so the government must intervene". I told him he was full of BS........ and I was immediately escorted from his office...... Here's to our valiant "leadership".. scary HUH?

OT * OT* OT * <<It began to go wrong when the ACLU and the Supreme Court took God out of the Schools>>

And which God would that be? Your God? My God? Hindu God? Christian God? Jewish God? The Sea God? Mountain God?

Do you begin to see a problem here? Schools are run by the State. Should the State promote a God? Which one? What about those who don't believe in God? Those who believe in multiple Gods?

God is not in the schools because this country was founded on the premise that the State has no business promoting one religion over another. Or even promoting religion over no religion. Some folks forgot that. The ACLU and the Supreme Court reminded them. Take a long look at whether you want the State teaching your children religion.

It is curious, but I have found that the great majority of folks I know who feel that schools (the State) should promote religion are the same folks who rail against the State for meddling in it's citizen's private lives. Fairly inconsistent IMO.

As regards the recent spate of school shootings and as regards the general high level of violence in our society, In also find it curious that many are quick to point the finger of blame at violent movies, video and computer games, yet rarely do they point to the organized violence that we call games. Football, hockey, boxing, wrestling etc., which we accept with nary a peep. Even stranger is the fact that I have yet to hear anyone point to what is happening in Yugoslavia when talking about violence. I know that my kids realize that video and computer games and movies are fantasy (because I never pass up an opportunity to discuss almost everything, at length, with them). I also know that what they see on the "news" (I put that in quotes because IMO it has evolved into something more akin to entertainment than news, but that's another topic) they know to be reality. Day in and day out the images of REAL violence pour into our homes, yet few ask, what role does the REAL violence that governments perpetrate against others plays in these terrible convulsions of violence that we see with increasing frequency. Sorry for the rant, but its upsetting to see this blamed on taking god out of the schools. The problems are much deeper and more complex than a bumper sticker slogan and the sooner we do the hard work necessary to address them the better. Aloha
