TAIPEI -- Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSM) is planning to build a 12-inch wafer plant with unit Vanguard International Semiconductor Corp., a spokesperson at the world's largest pure chip foundry said Friday.

No other details were immediately available.

Local newspapers reported that work on the facility is slated to begin next year, with production expected in 2001. The plant will use leading-edge 0.13 micron manufacturing technology, they added.
