Kash - Re: "I was under the mistaken impression it was 4."
You were talikng about next year - 4 fabs at 0.18 micron.

I'm talking about NOW - THREE Fabs at 0.18 micron.

That means that these three fabs will be near FULL production on 0.18 micron next year while the 4'th (and maybe 5'th) 0.18 micron fabs come on line.

Re: "Anyhow in terms of Coppermine (109mm2 die size) capacity what unit volume does that represent. My guesstimate is 40M/qtr units be interested in your expert number."

No - 40 Million/Quarter is WAY TOO HIGh for Coppermine. Intel's TOTAL x86 CPU production is only about 25 or 26 million/Quarter today.

Don't forget - Intel will be using that 0.18 micron process for StrongARM, Merced, Willamette, Cascades, Timna - maybe even Colusa chip sets.

Kash - Read all about Intel's first 0.18 micron CPU - now appearing in a Sony Notebook computer - at 400 MHz !

Message 9657587

Among these models is a retail first, a notebook with a sizable 15-inch XGA active matrix LCD display packed with a 400MHz Pentium(R) II processor.
